Blog Mission

The Bergenstreiml's mission is:

  • To share stories about living in a neurodiverse family, and validate the experiences of many who walk this path.

  • To explore the edge between 'neurotypical' and 'Autism', and to highlight the gifts that can be found there.

  • To see Autism in a greater context than 'pathological' or 'disordered', and to challenge the idea of 'normal' versus 'abnormal'.

  • To grow the notion of a 'challenging experience' to include opportunities for growth, deepening of empathy and connection for everyone. This journey belongs to us all.

  • To honour the Mystery, and to not pretend we know all the answers or have solutions, or that they are even needed at times. To take the focus off fixing, and put it on understanding and growing, human alongside human.

  • To promote empathy, acceptance, appreciation, and self-responsibility to create harmony in our families and communities. To explore ways of learning and being together that honour our humanness.

  • To bring humour and joy to a field bogged down in solemnity and distress.

  • To share our experiences freely and authentically, without shame or justification for who we are in a given moment on our journey to wholeness. We encourage others to do likewise.
